BIG CHANGES are due at the helm of the Road Haulage Association when its director-general, George Newman, retires at the end of July.
The RHA has engaged solicitors Mawby, Barrie and Scott to collect applications for the redesignated post of chief executive, and is looking for candidates with proven management skills an ability to handle high-leve communications, and speak ir public.
An advertisement which ap peared last week, however makes no mention of salary o location of the job. The solicitor: are telling prospective applica nts that they "think the job based in London". M Newman's salary, according tt the RHA, is in excess of £15,001 a year.
The RHA said that no signifi cance should be read into th, change of title, merely that chie executive is a more moder term than director genera which, in any case, suggests lower layer of directors in th management structure.
Mr Newman, who has bee RHA director-general for 2 years, trained as a barrister an is an Oxford graduate. He playe a leading role for the RHA durin the 1979 haulage drivers' striki and was awarded an OBE in th 1980 New Year's honours list.
