ON two recent Scottish public holidays 1April 5 and 19) Edinburgh City Police introduced a very severe ban on parking in the 'central area, employed a signposted through route avoiding the centie, and introduced two free car parks: on the outside of the city for motorists from Fifeshire and Glasgow areas. The parks were linked with the city by 10-minute frequency bus services at a fiat fare of 6d. each way. Double-deck buses were employed on April 5. hut a one-man service operated on the 19th. both services limited-stop, although tl I Princes Street stops were used as picking-tip points for the return journeys. On the first day. 30 cars used one park ;ind 12 the other, but on April 19 (Glasgow public holiday) a total of 315 car-loads took advantage of the service. Similar arrangements might well be employed during future holidays.
