Bedfords k on Show _ AMONG the Bedford municipal vehicles being displayed at the showrooms of Shaw and Kilbbrn, Ltd., Berkeley Square, London, W.1, is a 1,000-gallon cesspool-emptier based on a 7-ton chassis. Bodywork is .by the Eagle Engineering Co., Ltd., and . the price of the vehicle is £1,497. A model built for Maidstone Corporation is shown.
' The display, which ends to-morrow, was arranged to be concurrent with the Public Works Exhibition at Olympia. Another interesting vehicle is a Utilecon fie tender for Devon Fire Brigade. It is a variant of the 10-12cwt. van and provides ample room for carrying emergency equipment. A twin ladder is carried on the roof and Pye two-way radio apparatus is installed. The tender costs £535.
Other conversions of the 10-12-cwt. model are a Grosvenor estate van-and Grosvenor A Bedford-Eagle Compressmore 1.2-20-cubic-yd. refuse-Collector may be inspected. It has a Neville crcw cab to seat four or five loaders and the driver. This vehicle costs £1,927.Next to it is a Bedford-Eagle 10-cubic-yd. sideloader, also fitted with a Neville cab. This model is listed at £1,252. An example of the Bedford-Lacre sweepercollector, which costs £1,778, is displayed. This model has met with success since its introduction' a few months ago and orders are now being taken to complete the 1953-54 schedule.
Ambulances by Spurling, Lever and Lomas can be' seen on the lower ground floor, together with a Spurmomet bus to carry 10 passengers. This vehicle was built for British Railways to pick up personnel from their homes on early-morning call.
