THE Eastern deputy Licensing Authority, sitting at Wisbech on Friday, reserved his decision on the action to be taken over the C licence of West Norfolk Produce Auction Co. Ltd., of King's Lynn. The company admitted carrying goods for another firm.
An application by the company for a Contract A licence for two vehicles to be hired to Donald Cook and Son Ltd., of King's Lynn, was also deferred.
The company's managing director, Mr. Edmund Arthur Sillis, agreed that his company had been carrying goods for Donald Cook and Son Ltd. but, because he had been making no haulage charge he had been under the "mistaken belief" that he was not acting illegally. However, he now realised he was wrong.
Mr. S. J. Green of Cambridge, who appeared for the company, said that if any suspension were imposed it would have a disastrous effect on the company. The business, he said, provided valuable service to small growers in the area.
Applying for the Contract A licence, Mr. Sillis assured the deputy LA that the two vehicles would be hired only to Donald Cook and Son.
The application was opposed by three haulage firms.
