Regarding E. E. Campbell's comments concerning London tram seating (Speak up for Trams, CM September 16), I am sorry to have to . disillusion him in defence of The Hawk, but these seats were definitely wooden and unsprung during and for some considerable time after the war.
Is it not possible that any upholstered seating fitted in pre-war days would have been removed for reasons of economy, or "utility" as it was then known?
If this is the case, then both participants can claim 50 per cent accuracy at least. Of course I'm far too young to remember...
