tyres (the letter S denoting solids and the letter P pneumatics, the letters PT signifying the fact that the rear wheels, besides being shod with pneumatic tyres, have twin tyres) ; the weight of the chassis and the price. One of the most significant points disclosed by these brief specifications is the fact that the pneumatic tyre has almost entirely displaced the solid tyre for passenger work except for buses which operate on the smooth roads of the cities and larger towns. There are two articles in this issue (on pages 801 and 813) which show that confidence in the pneumatic tyre is well justified. It will come as a surprise to manyincluding those who have had many years' experience with the inflated tyre-that cotton cannot be equalled as a material for tyre fabric, and that in an inflation test to destruction the steel rim will be burst before the tyre could give out, whilst in the tread material rubber will outwear steel.
