THE Tate and Lyle group are not going to enter for the 1965 Lorry Driver of the Year competition. Normally they enter about 200 vehicles a year, from all parts of the country, and have been one of the most consistent performers at the National Finals.
This news was given to members of the executive committee of the competition when they met in Coventry on Tuesday.
A letter from Tate and Lyle explained that there had been a growing conflict of loyalties between their own competition and the national one. It had been decided, with considerable regret, to support only one competition each year; this meant their own contest and the national one alternately. In 1965 it had been decided to not participate in the national contest.
