Advanced Mechanical-horse Design. Other "Inner-zone" Vehicles, TrolleyIrises of SO h.p. and 90 h.p.
Stand 77
A WIDE selection of Karrier proIA ducts is displayed on this stand. It includes the concern's latest sixwheeled trolleybuses shown both as chassis and complete vehicica, and machines of the mechanical-horse type and other so-called inner-zone transport media.
Dealing with the exhibits individually, the smallest is the Cob Junior tractor chassis, equipped with automatic coupling for the attachment of the semi-trailer. It is a three-wheeler and constitutes the latest development of the original mechanical-horse type introduced by the Karrier concern in
1930.. Manceuvrability is unquestionably its outstanding attraction; the degree of this quality it possesses may he appreciated when it is realized that the turning circle is only 19 ft.
It is powered by a 14 h.p. four-cylindered petrol engine having a bore and stroke of 75 elm. and 110 mm.; the wheelbase is 8 ft. 8 ins, and the track 5 ft. Its wheels are shod with 23-in.
by 5-in. tyres, twins at the rear, • This tractor is also shown coupled to a semi-trailer to form an articulated
vehicle suitable for 4-ton pay-loads. It is displayed as a complete vehicle equipped with an enclosed cab, and a flat platform body measuring 12 ft 6 ins. by 6 ft. The weight of the tractor is 24 cwt.
A larger example of the mechanicalhorse type is seen in a Cob Senior 6-ton tractor-trailer outfit. Here again the trailing unit is quickly detachable, the dimensions in this case being 14 ft. by 7 ft. The tractive unit is a 23 h.p. six-cylindered petrol engine having a bore and stroke of 75 mm. by 120 mm. The tractor weighs 26 cwt.
Also possessing a high degree of manceuvrability, the next exhibit is a Bantam 2-ton four-wheeled flat-plat.. form bony. This machine, with a wheelbase of 7 ft. 9 ins., has a turning circle of 30 ft. It is equipped with a cab of which a pronounced feature is the ease with which the driver can enter and leave it. The power unit is a fourcylindered engine having the same bore and stroke as the Cob Senior. There are brakes on all four wheels.
An interesting 3-ton flat lorry is also on view; it has fully forward control and a body 17 ft. long. In this case the power unit is a 22.6 h.p. six-cylindered engine with bore and stroke ol 78 mm. and 106 mm. There are brakes on all four wheels. The chassis weighs 34 cwt. and has a wheelbase of 11 ft: 3 ins., and 27-in. by 6-in. tyres.
The Cob Junior mechanical hoe is also shown as a tractor equipped with cab and automatic coupling gear.
The first of the trolleybus exhibits is the model E.G shown as a fib-seater double-decker. It is powered by an 80 h.p. Met-Vic motor with regenerative control. Electric and compresgedair braking systems are used, and there
is a low-voltage lighting set. The chassis of this vehicle weighs 5 tohs
4 cwt. The wheelbase measurement ls 17 It. 10 ins., and the tyres are 20-in. by 10.5-in. low-pressure pneumatics.
Another E.6 trolleybus, also with a 60-seater body Of all-metal construction is being exhibited. This machine has a 93 h.p. Met-Vic motor and similar equipment to the foregoing. Its chassis weight, however, is only 5 tons, the wheelbase being 16 ft. 4 •ins.—Karrier Motors, Ltd., Biscot Road, Luton,
