CONTRARY to reports in the national press the Government is not prepared to offer counties any financial inducements to set up trial areas.
Under the terms of the Transport Act, from November 6 any county can apply to have an area designated a trial area in which no road service licensing will be required for any stage bus service.
Reports had suggested that councils could be offered cash to set up trial areas. A DT p spokesman denied this but did say that the Department could agree to provide certain financial indemnity or underwriting to avoid loss resulting from trial areas.
At present no county council in Britain has decided to apply to set up a trial area.
