" THE increased use of Diesel engines
for both passenger and goods vehicles is causing a sharp deterioration in the position." This is stated in a memorandum by the Association of Municipal Corporations submitted to the Committee of Inquiry into Air Pollution.
The memorandum suggests that the emission of dirty smoke from oil engines appeared to be contrary to the provisions of the Construction and Use Regulations. The police might need to retain the services of qualified motor engineers if they wished to enforce the rules which referred to the care of oil engines.
