QUNDERLAND'S tdm-conversion programme was completed a month ahead of schedule and last week the town's last tram was ceremoniously driven in to the Wheat Sheaf depot. This is to be adapted into a central workshop at a cost of £37,000 and it is proposed to rebuild the Fulwell depot at a further expense of £60,000.
Sunderland Transport Department now run 180 buses over 66.55 miles of route. Reason for tram abandonment' was the rapid deterioration of the tracks. The pads will cost more than £500,000 to be reinstated after track --removal.
