CONTRACTS worth £335,000 have been placed with Leyland Motors, Ltd., by five municipal passenger transport undertakings.
Liverpool has ordered 80 double-decker and six Royal Tiger singledecker chassis which will be fitted with Duple and Alexander bodywork. Fifteen Leyland-M.C.W. doubledeckers and a Royal Tiger with an East Lancashire body are going to Bolton.
The Pneumo-Cyclic gearbox will be fitted in 20 double-decker chassis for Leeds. Five of the bodies will be constructed by M.C.W. and the remainder by Charles Roe (Leeds), Ltd. Leeds has also ordered three Tiger Cub chassis which will be fitted with largecapacity bodies. Heavy-duty springs to take the weight of a 58-passenger body are to be supplied. The entrance in these bodies will be in the centre.
Seats for 34, and standing room for 24 passengers, will be provided. Just inside the 4-ft.-wide entrance there will be a clear space of 6 ft. 6 in.
Southend, which recently ordered six Titans, has increased the number to II. They will be full-fronted models.
One of three double-deckers for Newcastle upon Tyne will have the Pneumo-Cyclic gearbox. M.C.W. will supply bodywork for these vehicles.
