APPLICATION has been made to the North Western Licensing Authority by Bolton Transport Department for permission to abolish i all workmen's concessionary fares.
In addition, 55 services operated solely by the department are covered by proposals to add id. to the following ordinary singles: 21d,, 3d., 4d. (3-mile journeys), 5id., 61d., 71d., 81d. and 91d. The proposed variations apply also to four of the services operated jointly with Lancashire United Transport, Ltd., one with Wigan Transport Department, two with Bury Transport Department, one with L.U.T. and Leigh Transport • Department, one with L.U.T. and Salford Transport Department, and 15 with Ribble Motor Services, Ltd.
L.U.T. have made a similar application in respect of their Wigan-Bolton service.
Rochdale Transport Committee have recommended half-fares, with a minimum of lid., in off-peak periods, for passengers over 70 years of age. The r proposals will affect joint services with the North West Road Car Co., Ltd., and Hebble Motor Services, Ltd., as well as those of the corporation.
The transport departments of Manchester, Bury, Ashton-under-Lyne and Oldham, and Ribble Motor Services, Ltd., are to be asked to allow the concession on their services in Rochdale.
