THE recent wage increase to busmen
is the reason given by the Eastern National Omnibus Co., Ltd., for an application to the Eastern Licensing Authority for permission to raise cer
tain fares. If approved, the existing lAd. minimum will be abolished and ld, will be t dded to all fares up to Is. and 2d. over Is.
Southend Corporation are also understood to be considering applying for higher fares consequent on the wage increases. The extra 3s. a week awarded
to municipal busmen (The Commercial Motor, March 26) will cost Southport £2,750; Lytham St. Annes £1,250; Birmingham £45,000 and Swindon £1.600.
Reduction in the price of Derv, which was announced in The ComMercial Motor last week, will save Manchester Transport Department about £2,500 a year and Salford £600 a year.
