Operators whose drivers use M6 should know that the last service station travelling north is 52 miles from the top of the motorway. Above Forton the familiar indicators say "Next Services—not yet open". It hardly seems worth while putting the signs up at all because after a run up the motorway last week I can reveal that the foundations of the surfaces have yet to be laid.
Full marks then to the Rank Organization for having established a three-vehicle recovery team to operate within 30-mile radius of Forton which will take them into the new Shap section. The team is led by Mrs Sonia Robinson, a duty manager at Forton, and who could blame the boys for breaking down with such attractive help at hand? With such a vivacious team leader the snows in the dreaded Shap area will melt without salt next winter.
