ROYAL ASSENT was last week granted to the Carriage of Passengers by Road Act, a Private Member's measure introduced by Mr Edwin Wainwright, MP for Dearne Valley. Supported by both the Government and Opposition, the Act provides passengers of international bus and coach services with safeguards concerning corn
pensation and the terms of liability.
The Act will enable Britain to implement a United Nations Economic Commission for Europe Convention. An Order in Council is required for this to be completed and the Department of the Environment is to consult interested parties before making such an Order.
