A DEPUTATION comprising Mr. fl T. H, Campbell Wardlaw, the Newcastle solicitor, and the heads of three of the Northern area's main heavy haulage specialists, was received at the Ministry of Transport last week.
They advanced the view that there should be an increase from 24 tons to 32 tons in the overall permitted weight of articulated vehicles specially constructed for the conveyance of long lengths.
At the present time a vehicle and trailer can carry long-length material when the weight of the vehicle and load does not exceed 32 tons. If, however, the vehicle is articulated, the weight is restricted to 24 tons gross.
The three transport specialists who accompanied Mr. Campbell Wardlaw were Mr. T. Sunter, managing director of Sunter Brothers, Ltd., Northallerton, Mr. S. C. Cook, of Siddle C. Cook, Ltd., Consett, and Mr. P. H. Foster, of A. Stevens and Co. (Haulage), Ltd., of Great Ayton.
