MUNRO'S Transport (Aberdeen} escaped with a warning last week when it appeared at disciplinary proceedings before Scottish Licensing Authority Hugh McNamara, In addition to considering disciplinary action, the LA had an application by the company to renew its licence for 101 vehicles and 126 trailers before him.
Mr McNamara said the company had been called to public inquiry because of the number of prohibition notices on its vehicles and because of its failure to notify him of convictions recorded against it.
Evidence was given by a vehicle examiner concerning the prohibition notices imposed over the last five years.
For the company, Frank Cannon said that the fleet covered around two million miles each year. He argued that the list of defects was less serious in view of the mileage covered.
Duncan Munro, a director, said that in addition to its Aberdeen base, the company had depots in Glasgow, Manchester and London. It had spent over £250,000 on maintenance last year. Questioned by the LA, Mr Munro said that he was unaware that court convictions had to be reported to the LA.
Taking no action other than to record a formal warning, Mr McNamara said that he was quite happy to renew the licence. However, he stressed that operators had a duty to notify him of any convictions relating to the operation of vehicles.
