THERE is a feeling among carriers that the North-Western Area is the only one in which a double type
of condition is imposed. In other areas the restriction is to individual commodities, or to a general radius for all commodities."
This protest was voiced by Mr. H. Backhouse, C.M.U.A. solicitor,as affecting various applications, at an inquiry at Manchester, last week. .
All the carriers . who were under double conditions, he said; had suffered rather a shock by the Yorkshire decision with regard to railway vehicles. • If the railway companies were to have A-licence vehicles in place of horses, the road carriers felt that, as their own work was akin to collection and delivery, they should not be held back. Moreover, where they were doing trunk work, they should not be tied down, so strictly.
