-rut: Army is to form a new specialist
branch—the Royal Corps of Transport. It will come into being at a ceremony at Aldershot next Thursday (July 15) and will have a regular army strength of 1,300 officers and 11.000 men.
The RCT will serve throughout the world vtillt the Army, operating vehicles of all types from 5-cwt. vans to 60-ton tank transporters and modern diesel locomotives. It will also crew the Army's vessels from harbour launches to TLCs and fly its own light aircraft and helicopters. The R ASC will disappear when the new service comes into being. Its former responsibilities for supply have been transferred to the RAOC.
The badge of the RCT will be similar to that of the RASC with the alteration of the title. Colours will be blue, white and red.
