THE Department of the Environment is to hold experiments in relaxing the psv licensing laws in four areas : North Yorkshire, Devon, South Ayrshire and Dyfed.
This was announced last week at the first meeting of the Steering Committee on Rural Transport in London.
Local Working groups will now be set up to decide in each case the location to be tackled and to assess the transport needs and resources of the area. They will then design an experiment to meet the problems thrown up and to administer its operation.
Experiments are expected to begin before the end of the year.
• Environment Secretary Mr Peter Shore told the Council for the Protection of Rural England last week : "My department will he promoting a number of experimental schemes for buses to test out nd demonstrate what more an be done to help rural (immunities."
He also announced that he ould be setting up an inquiry nto the DoE's present methods if appraising road schemes.
