• Rodger (Builders) Ltd., of Earlston, was granted a B licence for six tippers formerly on C licence by the Scottish LA, Mr. A. B. Birnie, in Edinburgh on Monday.
Mr. A. Rodger, director, said that the company, an established builder in the Earlston area, was engaged in a wide range of construction and civil engineering work in the Border counties. Other operators working on the same contract had asked for the use of the company's vehicles which would not have been legal while the vehicles were operated on C licence.
Mr. Birnie queried the definition of the word "district" in the proposed normal user of "excavated and demolition material, road and building materials, plant within 30 miles radius of the operating centre excluding Edinburgh and district". Mr. Rodger agreed to alter the proposed user to read "excluding Edinburgh and five miles from Edinburgh General Post Office".
Granting the application, Mr. Birnie warned that "the more wearing the work, the more need to attend to maintenance", and advised the company to use the Ministry's testing stations as a check on maintenance.
