EASTERN SCOTTISH bus fares are due to rise by between five and 13 per cent from April 1 because Lothian Regional Council failed to give £433,000 revenue support to the Scottish Bus Group in its budget.
An exception to the fares rise is in Livingston new town, where the council accepted that £50,000 should be kept in the budget to help run Eastern Scottish town services for Livingston.
Lothian's Edinburgh fares rise in July and higher bus fares will come into force in Aberdeen on April 1 — but only for short journeys of three stages or under. The increases on the Grampian Scottish joint services run by the region and SBG will be 2p on the single stage journey, taking the fare from 10p to 12p for an adult, with the child's fare unaltered.
