Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

EXPRESS parcels carrier, Wilkinson Transport, has introduced a computerised control system which keeps track of the 65,000 parcels which it handles daily.

The Wilkontrol system, based on two Sperry Univac computers, links together all 16 Wilkinson depots, and is capable of storing information on up to 250,000 consignments. That is about 1.25m parcels.

Visual display units have been fitted at each of the depots, giving access to details of all consignments and daily operational records.

Details of each consignment are held for three weeks, after which a print-out is produced, giving details of proof of delivery.

Wilkinson claims this will produce great savings over its manual system, in which over 75,000 pieces of paper had to be filed every week. It also was much slower than the new system.

The system serves depots at Exeter, Southampton, Cardiff, Oxford, Bristol, Tonbridge, London, Birmingham, Higham Ferrers, Norwich, Oakham, Chester, Rochdale, Leeds, Newcastle-upon-Tyne, and Glasgow.
