• Drax Engineering of Peterborough is selling an American-made heavy-duty low loading semi-trailer of between 18 and 45 tonnes load capacity.
Its axles move forward for low-angled ground loading.
When the trailer is prepared for loading, the front tilts upwards on hydraulic arms, while the axles are moved simultaneously up to 3.5m towards the front. This gives a 10 degree load angle, but an eight degree option is also available.
The trailer deck, available in 12.8 and 14.6m lengths, has a loaded height of 0.9m and a floor width of 2.44m which can be widened to 3.66m. by using telescoping side extensions.
A 5.4-tonne hydraulic winch is standard, but larger capacity ones are available along with gooseneck or portable loading ramps. Prices have yet to be fixed, but are expected to be between £14,000 and £25,000.
