• Local authorities in Derbyshire are planning to unite to fight future fare-increase applications by bus operators. The decision was reached at talks between the Derbyshire branches of the Rural District Councils Association and the Urban District Councils Association, together with members of Derbyshire County Council and Ilkeston Corporation, Now, individual district councils are being asked if they wish to participate in the policy.
Chesterfield Rural Council has already declared its intention to go along with the plan. Instead of councils making "solo" objections they would unite to oppose any increase in bus fares which was considered unreasonable.
The county cOuncil would obtain expert financial advice on any applications to the Traffic Commissioners and engage expert witnesses and counsel if necessary.
