• Newcastle-upon-Tyne Corporation transport committee has opened talks with the employees' union on a new productivity deal for busmen. The success of the talks is likely to depend on whether the men get their expected pay rise later this month. The committee wants to use more one-man buses, of which it has 82 on order.
