• Bus operators in North East Derbyshire are to be asked to make a contribution to the cost of providing bus shelters. Chesterfield Rural Council is to invite contributions from East Midland Motor Services, Midland General Omnibus Co., Chesterfield Corporation transport department and Trent Motor Traction. The council maintains that as BR provides shelter for its passengers it is reasonable for bus companies to make a similar provision.
At present the cost of bus shelters, which varies from about £50 to £172 is met by parish councils with a grant from the rural council and Derbyshire County Council. Council chairman Cllr. Walter Everett said: "As well as being an amenity for passengers, shelters are, after all, an asset to the operators because they encourage people to wait for buses.
