THE second three-monthly phase of
Britain's first subsidized rural bus services in the Louth market town area of Lincolnshire has been disappointing, according to the operator, the Lincolnshire Road Car Co. Ltd.
As from December 5 last, an entirely new basis for these experiments was made, in that for the first time ordinary fare-paying passengers were allowed on school buses.
On one route there have been two or
three regular passengers who have purchased weekly tickets, but these apart, the number of tickets issued has averaged about five returns and five single tickets a week.
On another route, no weekly tickets have been issued and the number of singles and returns per week has averaged six, and less than one, respectively.
It has not yet been decided if the experiment will be continued beyond the end of the present school term.
