'PLEA for a better bus service by Bury Corporation was made at ochdale, last week, by Unsworth and istrict Owners' and Occupiers' Associaon, when the North Western Traffic ommissioners held a special public iquiry. The Association claimed that risting services between Unsworth, Ihitefield and Manchester were unsatisctory,
Mr. G. J. Taylor, a member of the ssociation's committee, suggested that ises between Unsworth and Whitefield iould operate at 20-minute intervals to iincide with train arrivals. A direct rvice to Manchester was also required, gether with a more frequent service Saturday afternoons.
Ile pointed out that there was great .om for expansion at Unsworth, where anchester Corporation were planning build 1,500 houses.
Mr. R. A. Scott, another member of e Association, said people in the area
re eager to use buses, but these were t provided at the right time. If ser.es were timed more intelligently, there iuld be extra revenue which would interact uneconomic running.
Replying, Mr. F. Thorpe, general .nager of the undertaking, said the :sent services were established in 1952 comply with residents' requests. At moment they were losing money and m more revenue would be lost by any !rations.
