MRTIELIN has developed an on-board tyre pressure monitoring system for light vans and cars.
Signals from temperature and pressure sensors in the tyres (including the spare) are sent to receivers mounted on the vehicle, near each wheel.
A microprocessor then processes the data and displays the figures on the dashboard.
According to service manager Robert Mesonnier, who was speaking at the ETMC conference in Strasbourg last week, Michelin has been
working on the MTM system for "five or six years—.
But it is still only in prototype form and is not expected to be in production for at least two years.
Messonnier says that Michelin is looking at a commercial vehicle version of the system.
• Pirelli's new zero degree range of truck tyres has increased sales dramatically, says the company.
In 1986 the range will be increased and a low-profile zero-degree version introduced.
