THE ROUTLERS Drivers Club is continuing the drive towards higher standards of food and accommodation for drivers by launching its own approval scheme for truckstops.
Anything from a cafe to a motorway service area can apply to Routiers at 354 Fulham Road, London SW10, for approval. The premises will be inspected by Routiers, which is looking for good value, good food and a welcome for the truck and coach driver.
If approval is granted the truckstop is entitled to lease a special sign (see picture) at an annual cost of around MO for a cafe, £800 to £1,000 for a trunk road site and around £10,000 for a motorway service area.
A spokesman for Routiers told CM that there shOuld be four approved truckstops by the end of January and 15 by the end of 1986. It envisages that ultimately there will be 50 to 60.
