VEHICLE manufacturers approrshed by The Commercial Motor on Tuesday about the possibility of rises in prices, following awards of higher pay to engineering workers, were cautious in their replies. There is a natural reluctance to advance prices, which have remained fairly steady for nearly two years. In this period, rises in costs have mainly been absorbed, but whether this process can continue is speculative.
With the removal of the 20 m.p.h. limit, the heavier class of goods vehicle is in greater demand, and this factor may stabilize prices of such models. Although one big company has revised prices in the past few weeks, it seems unlikely, that others will follow suit for the time being.
