THE C-licence operator is not a competitor with either hauliers or the railways, according to Mr. C. F. Horsley, of S. J. Fry and Sons, Ltd. He told the Western Division of the Traders' Road Transport Association, last week, that no concern operated their own transport unless there was a sound reason for it. The usual reason was that no suitable alternative was open to them.
If nationalization came about again, there would be the possibility of people being restricted in finding the transport most suited to their needs. This was a real threat to the C-licence operator.
Mr. R. E. G. Brown, secretary of the Association's Home Counties Division. said holders of C licences were being made the target for all kinds of criticism. and were taking the blame for many problems, including traffic congestion.
