ATurbo-charged Volvo and Scania-Vabis
engines have such a favourable record that operators in Scandinavia do not seem to bother whether the engine of a vehicle they purchase is turbo-charged or not, so long as its output characteristics and fuel consumption are acceptable.
On the Continent generally, however, there is some bias against turbo-charging because of past misapplications and a number of premature failures. Providing efficient sealing and coping with elevated ring-belt temperatures are normally the main problems to be overcome when a standard diesel engine is turbocharged.
