BROCKHOUSE Transmissions of West Bromwich has installed in its research and development unit advanced equipment for the remote monitoring of torque and temperature in rotating shafts and housings.
The equipment employs the telemetry system of performance monitoring, which Brockhouse claims is far superior to the slip ring method in eliminating the electrical interface with the rotating component and the risk of signal distortion. Telemetry uses a frequency modulation technique to transmit signals through the part under test into a strain measuring system.
The system will be employed in monitoring the dynamic performance of torque convertor and retarder operation on the full range of Brockhouse and Maxwell Transmissions.
