THE TRANSPORT Minister k overturned a West Midlam Traffic Commissioner's decisic to refuse an application for a p: licence on a 13-year-old coac Mr W. H. Smith of Rugele Staffordshire, applied for th licence on a 1967 Bedford VA 45-seater coach in January 198 The Commissioners refused II application on the grounds th the vehicle was too old ar therefore likely to cause troub in the future.
Despite the fact that the coac had a current Certificate of F ness and the Commissione were satisfied with Mr Smith arrangements for operating th vehicle, they would not grant 0 application but said they wou reconsider an application for newer vehicle.
In overruling the decision, tl Minister said that he was sat fied that the applicant met tl criteria required for a ne operator and he took the VIE that, rather than age, the imp( tant factor's to be borne in mi when considering a licence an valid Certificate of Fitness anc well-maintained vehicle.
