Where, oh where, did my friend Mr Derogobian of Transmodial of Istanbul get to when he should have been at the Middle East Conference in London ? Did he get lost or had he heard that the 100-odd delegates had questions for him ? Questions such as these : Why has the Tahir bypass been delayed till 1978 — it was promised for this year ? Or why is there still confusion over the border taxes ? And why do your policemen continue to harass 'European drivers ?
Amid all this aggravation and abuse, I'm told that a Turk, a one-time resident in London but now less than welcome here, has been seeking substantial leasing agreements with at least one trailer firm. The short reply was: "Take your business and your overdraft elsewhere."
