• A major reorganization of British Road Services Ltd which will ultimately give all district managers the status of managing directors, responsible for their "own" company results, was announced this week. There will be 11 district companies instead of the previous 13.
The district managers running their nominally separate companies will be assisted by local boards of directors. This significant move coincides with the Government's stated policy of sharpening up the commercial impact of the nationalized industries.
The first organizational changes, effective from January 11971, include:—
The South East and London districts amalgamate with hq at Sevenoaks, excepting the following branches which join the South West district: Isle of Wight, Poole, Portsmouth and Southampton, and the Contracts branches which join London Contracts district.
North Midlands district merges with East Midlands, with the exception of branches at Bedford, Dunstable, Northampton and Rugby which join West Midlands.
The South Yorks and Lincs district amalgamates with North East district.
The following subsidiary companies become branches of the appropriate BRSL districts: Castle Bros (Hauliers) Ltd, and F. Crowther and Son (Wakefield) Ltd—North East district; Corrington Ltd—East Midlands district.
Mr K. P. H. Fielding, previously manager of the consultancy service at hq, has been appointed head of marketing with immediate effect; Mr J. Farrant, manager of South Midlands district, becomes head of operations from January 1 1971.
