• A bus service — proposed as an alternative to the Kyle railway which is under a threat of closure — will go on trial on Wednesday.
Ross County Council's development officer, Mr Gwyn Davies, said that a similar trial was carried out in February 1971, "and it was clear then that the proposed alternative bus timetable could not be adhered to under winter conditions. The present arrangements are to assess the timetable under summer conditions".
Mr Davies said that the council, with other organizations, still hoped that the threatened railway closure would not happen.
"We are proceeding with several surveys and have organized this trial in order to establish a comparable time by road," he commented.
