FROM OUR POLITICAL CORRESPONDENT THE long-awaited results of the joint I expert study of the chances of a new Channel link are likely to be in the hands of the Government in the next few weeks. It has been widely forecast that the experts will favour a tunnel rather than a bridge for political, navigational and several other reasons.
But what has not been so clear is whether the British Government is in favour of joining the French in any project at all.
Britain is not likely to show her hand over the issue of a new Channel crossing before it at least becomes plain that France will make concessions at the Common Market Conference table. The crossing is one of the few real bargaining counters against the French which this country holds. lithe French will not retreat it is hard to see. any real progress being made on the crossing controversy for some time to come.
