THE new expreSs service from Derby to Nottingham, introduced by 'Barton Transport, Ltd., and the Trent Motor Traction Co., Ltd., in the face of strong opposition from the British Transport Commission; is to continue. It was announced on Wednesday that the Commission's appeal against the grant of the licence by the East Midland Traffic Commissioners had been dismissed.
The Minister said that many people had been travelling from Derby to Nottingham by Barton and Trent stage services. An express service gave passengers a quicker and more direct journey by road. He had attached due weight to the improved direct facilities afforded by British Railways' new .DieSel train service.
He recognized the difficulty of forecasting the effect of additional facilities on the distribution of traffic between road and rail, but thought the new express service was an important facility that could properly be permitted alongside the enhanced rail services.
