• If there were evidence of a general need for common policies about concessionary fares—and he accepted there might be—Mr Griffiths said his Department would be very willing to open discussions.
But, he pointed out, when proposals for a general formula on concessionary fares were circulated last year they had attracted very little support. '
Earlier, Mr Marcus Fox (Tory, Shipley) had stressed the difficulties which arose when one local authority gave concessions but a neighbour did not, while Mr Mulley noted that this also presented problems to Traffic Commissioners considering fares increases.
