• Claimed to be the largest bulk malt carrier in the UK, an articulated vehicle has been built by B. W. Winter and Sons, Wallington, King's Lynn, Norfolk, that can carry 21 tons of malt and is being used for operations between Berwick-on-Tweed and Manchester. It has an overall length of 38ft, a height of 11ft 1 Iin. and a width of 8ft 21in. Coupled to a Mercedes-Benz 1418 tractive unit, it has a gvw of 32 tons and it is doing the work that was previously done by two smaller vehicles.
Having a steel framework and aluminium panels, the carrier is mounted on a Crane Fruehauf widespread bogie equipped with Goodyear Super Single tubeless tyres. The material is discharged by endless belt that is driven by an hydraulic motor powered by a pto-driven pump. If required it can be equipped with a trailer-mounted power pack and is available with a pneumatic discharge system for carrying animal feeds, grain and so on.
