• Twin-steering six-wheeler versions of the British Leyland Boxer trucks, announced last month, are already being offered by the Primrose Third Axle Co Ltd, Ewood, Blackburn, Lancs. The first examples arc 13X 1000 models for breweries who need to combine a low loading height with as much reserve for unbalanced loading and payload allowance as possible.
In its twin-steer six-wheeler form, the Boxer 1000 is plated for 14.5 tons gross-41 tons more than when the truck is in its ordinary four-wheeler form. Each of the front axles is plated at 3.75 tons. The rear axle is plated at 7 tons. The 17in. wheels afford a low loading height.
A Primrose-reconstructed twin-steer Boxer 1000 weighs about 3 tons 13cwt in cabbed chassis form. The list price of the reconstruction is £584, plus a fitting charge of 1144, which applies whatever the discount rate on the list price.
