Er0 tractors, each capable of drawg 100 tons, last week towed a special Scammell 32-wheeled trailer on which was mounted a 70-ton load—half of the engine sole plate, with crankshaft attached, for the Blue Funnel liner "Anchises," now being fitted out at the Caledon Shipyard, Dundee.
To ensure smooth running, and to avoid engine stalling, the driver of each tractor had to change gear at the same moment as the other. The link between them was a third man, who stood in the rear of the first vehicle, in a position where both drivers could see him.
The journey from Gourock to Dundee occupied three days.
