BEFORE the Margate Conference opened last week, certain members of the Passenger Vehicle Operators Association, the Mayor of Margate and some councillors discussed the following suggestion:—
A weekly direct service should be run during the season from such centres as Birmingham, Leicester, Bedford and Luton to Margate. The corporation was willing to (1) create a central loading point and information centre, (2) make accommodation arrangements for passengers, (3) advertise the services, and (4) place at the disposal of operators the full organization of an accommodation service, which deals only with recommended hotels and boarding houses.
It is understood that the Association is considering whether it would act as organizer or whether each individual operator should make arrangements with Margate Corporation. The question whether the proposed services would be acceptable to the Traffic Commissioners also arises.
