depot at Canterbury was opened on Wednesday by Mr. H. J. Thom; the South Eastern Licensing Authority.
Costing £75,000, the new depot is situated at Roper Road and replaces the company's Rhodaus Town centre in Canterbury. and the Eaton Road, Margate depot.
The site caters for 20 vehicles, covers an area of .approximately 60,000 sq. ft., and contains an enclosed transit shed incorporating a loading bank, modern offices and a service station for maintenance.
The new branch will eliminate unnecessary transhipment handling between Canterbury and Margate and will enable the development of direct trunking from the Kent area connecting with Northern England. Scotland. the Midlands and Eastern counties. Thus the need to tranship parcels through I.ondon branches will be avoided.
Mr. I. A. Sayer will be in charge of the branch.• which is one of nine in the Southern parcels area controlled by Mr. S. C.-G. White, area manager
