ONTAINER traffic through the port of Felixstowe increased by over LI per cent during 1981 to a new record of 348,930 boxes. This is an Icrease of 103,049 containers on the 1980 figure.

Much of the increase was as a .1sult of the opening of two new )ntainer terminals in April last 3ar at a cost of £32m. Ro-ro traffic fell slightly to 2.52m tonnes from the previous year's figure of 2.54m tonnes. General cargo trade fell by over 2,000 to 0.43m tonnes.
