a-gallon extra fuel tax to the stage sus operators will cost the Exchequer 6,000,000 in the coming financial year.
This estimate, given to Parliament last week-end, reveals the massive size of the lay-back which the Government will be taking following the promise given to he bus industry when the increase was nposed last November.
But the taxpayer ought not to quibble. f no relief had been given, stage fares rould almost certainly have gone up ecause of the tax. And the Governtent will not quibble either, because it as been spared unpopularity for this.
